In the heartlands of Malayalam cinema, a new tale is set to unfold—Bazooka.
Directed and written by the debutant filmmaker Deeno Dennis, this action thriller promises to be a riveting addition to Indian cinema. Backed by the creative minds of Jinu Abraham, Dolwin Kuriakose, Vikram Mehra, and Sidharth Anand Kumar, Bazooka is crafted under the banners of Yoodlee Films and Theatre of Dreams.
The film boasts an ensemble cast led by the legendary Mammootty, alongside talents like Gautham Vasudev Menon, Divya Pillai, Jisshu Sengupta, Shine Tom Chacko, and others. As the poster surfaces, expectations rise for an adrenaline-pumping cinematic experience.
Embarking on its journey in May 2023, Bazooka’s official title was unveiled in April the same year. The story, meticulously developed over three years, marks the directorial debut of Deeno Dennis. Son of renowned screenwriter Kaloor Dennis, Deeno Dennis brings a fresh perspective to the collaboration, having been a frequent collaborator with Mammootty.
The narrative unfolds through the lens of cinematographer Nimish Ravi, capturing the essence of Kochi in every frame. The beats of the film are orchestrated by the talented Midhun Mukundan, who previously collaborated with Mammootty on Rorschach (2022).
The cast is an impressive array of talent, including names like Gayathiri Iyer, Sidharth Bharathan, Neeta Pillai, Iswarya Menon, Bhama Arun, and more. Gautham Vasudev Menon, signing up after completing Leo (2023), adds another layer to the ensemble.
The film’s pre-production journey has been long, with meticulous planning and dedication evident in every aspect. Mammootty, drawn by the tight narrative and well-rounded characters, eagerly embraced the role of Bazooka’s protagonist, adding his iconic touch to the project.
Filming commenced on 10th May 2023, with locations spanning Coimbatore, Kochi, and Bangalore. However, the journey faced an unforeseen challenge with the sad demise of Mammootty’s mother, leading to a temporary halt.
Despite the hurdles, Bazooka resumed its course, and Mammootty wrapped up his shooting portions by 5th August 2023. The film captures the essence of action with a real-life incident where actor Hakkim Shah met with an accident during a chase sequence.
As the story unfolds, Midhun Mukundan’s music weaves through the narrative, creating an emotional tapestry that complements the visuals. The film, initially expected to release alongside Barroz in December 2023, now gears up for a theatrical release in 2024.
Bazooka promises to be a rollercoaster of emotions, action, and intrigue—a testament to the collaborative brilliance of its cast and crew. Malayalam cinema enthusiasts can mark their calendars, anticipating the arrival of Bazooka on the silver screen.
